Forth Rail Bridge from South Queensferry.
I took a short trip to South Queensferry with Betsy after tea time yesterday. I seen the weather forecast was pretty good, and there was also a bit of cloud around, not much though, and the breeze would drop just after sunset. Sunset was at around around1932hrs, so I made sure I would be in location well before sun set.
I parked up near the police station, and only had to walk a short distance to the harbour and on to the rocky beach in front of the Orocco Pier Hotel.
The autumn and winter months is nice for photography, especially not being out too late for a sunset. I took my DSLR and the10-24mm lens, that’s the lens I used for my photos. When I switched on my camera to take the first image, it had less than 25% battery at the start, bad move! But, I had a fully charged one in my bag.
Golden hour, before sun set. Long exposure with a 10-stop ND filter. Forth Rail Bridge. A few rocks as foreground interest.
I did want more cloud in this image, so maybe the next time. The wind dropped as it said on the Met Office app at around 1930hrs. There was an opportunity to take more images with my drone, or a short video. The next time I will spend a bit longer in South Queensferry to get the drone up. The drone stayed in my bag due to wanting to get back home at a decent time.
The DSLR was on a tripod for all the images I took yesterday, I don’t normally do hand held photography for land or seascapes. It prevents blurry images, even though the shutter speed can be fast. I like my images for land or seascapes to be sharp.
My last image below was taken at dusk at the harbour before going to the car, and head home.
Dusk, South Queensferry harbour. Long exposure, 10-stop ND filter.
I will be back there again, and I maybe try something different, such as having more foreground interest being the main subject before the bridges? Roll on the winter months, the images could be more interesting with a scattering of snow, then maybe convert the images into black and white? I may even convert them into something creative too?
I am now building up a nice portfolio of the bridges, I will always try and better my images in someway. I’m looking at twenty of my best images of the bridges, and maybe one day, I will have a gallery of them on display for the public to see?
I could even have them displayed in the our new medical facility which opens in January - I’ll need to get permission first.
Thank you for reading my blog, and I will be out and about with my camera again soon.
